What should I wear for my Maternity Photoshoot?
A maternity photoshoot is your chance to show the amazing journey you and your body are on and to capture that moment to look back on for years to come and one day share with your children. During your maternity photoshoot you want to be comfortable, confident, feel like you and feel beautiful. This is what you need to think about most whilst deciding on what you would like to wear for your maternity photoshoot. As a maternity photographer I can give you guidance on what will work best from a photography point of view and what in my experience looks best in the end result of the photos.
You maternity photos are a celebration of you and your bump that has carried your precious baby. This is what we want to highlight and show in your photos, framed with the right clothing and posing (don’t be scared of this word, we’ll come back to it later).
You don’t need to run out to the shop to buy clothes specifically for your maternity photoshoot, there are lots of options with items you will already have at home. Together with your maternity photographer we will come up with a few different outfit options.
Items of clothing that are fitted or accentuate your waist are a great way of easily show off your bump if you don’t want your bump to be fully on show. Simple, blocked, neutral colours or a subtle pattern look great against a white background. You can then cradle your bump in various different ways to really show what your body has made (this is posing without really knowing it).
If you’re confident in wearing a bra, bralette or cropped vest top this is a great way of showing your bump and gives lots of styling options. You can match it with a kimono, jeans, blazer, shirt or just your underwear.
You want to look and feel like you. You want to look back at these photos and be so proud of what you have done. Don’t let your outfit become a distraction or something you regret in the future.
No matter what your outfit, with sitting, kneeling and standing position options we can get creative making different lines and looks from really easy outfits you will already have at home. The posing will come naturally and with gentle direction from your maternity photographer you will look and feel amazing.
Remember there is always the option to include other members of your family too whether that be your partner, children, or pets. Just speak to your maternity photographer beforehand to let them know who you would like to be involved.
