When Should I Book My Newborn Photoshoot?

The list of things to do before your baby arrives is long, believe me I know. Even when you think you’ve got everything covered something else pops into your mind or a friend suggestions something you haven’t even considered. So where abouts on the list should organising your newborn photoshoot be? Let me try and help you with this one.

The ideal time for a newborn photoshoot is within the first 4-14 days of baby being born. This is when a newborn baby is at their sleepiest, cuddliest and squishiest making it that little bit easier to capture all the newborn-ness and really see their size and newborn features.

It is ultimately best to think about how old you would ideally like your baby to be when you have your newborn photoshoot. Do you want squishy, fresh faced newborn photos or are you looking for something where they are a little more alert, perhaps even starting to smile and showing a little bit of their personality? This will help you know whether it’s a newborn photoshoot or a baby photoshoot you will need.

If you’ve got a specific newborn photographer in mind that you would really like to have do your newborn photoshoot then it’s always best to get booked with them as soon as possible. Most newborn photographers will let you book from your 20 week scan onwards. When I take bookings for a newborn photoshoot together we will pencil in to the diary 2-4 days, a mixture of weekdays and weekends, a few days after your due date. I will then simply ask you to drop me an email once baby is born so we can firm up a date and time that suits everyone. This gives you peace of mind knowing that your newborn photoshoot is booked in but the flexibility to pick the exact date once baby arrives.

A newborn photoshoot can be booked nearer your due date but you just need to bear in mind that you may not be able to get a date within the ideal first 2 weeks of baby being born if that is what you are looking for. Some newborn photographers will only offer newborn photoshoots when baby is a certain age, for example my newborn photoshoots are for babies between 0-3 months, some photographers will only do them within the first 2 weeks.

If it’s a sleepy newborn, with their tiny fingers and toes, doing the newborn scrunch that your are wanting to capture then get your newborn photoshoot booked in with you preferred newborn photographer as soon as you reach your 20 week pregnancy mark. if you’re wanting to wait a little longer until you and baby are more settled and confident then speak to your Newborn and Family photographer to find out what photoshoot and packages they can offer. There’s something there for everyone.

The first few weeks of your babies life are precious. A newborn photoshoot allows you to capture those special newborn moments, frozen in time forever.
