My First Year - as a Newborn Photographer and Business Owner
Like we all say many times as a parent, how has it been a year?! How has it been a year since I started Bloom, Blossom and Blush? It’s so weird to think that this time last year I was very much like let's give this a go and see what happens. I had obviously hoped that one day it would become my job but I did not expect it to only be a year later. But after a few conversations and when opportunity arose back in June it seemed like a no brainer to jump at this chance and go for it.
As I am writing this I thought now would be a good time to look back at what I have done this part year wouldn’t it?
15 photoshoots - including newborn, cake smashes, birthday parties and a kids shoot
20 Hartbeeps sessions attended
4 Rhythm Time sessions attended
2 Messy Monkeys
1 Baby Ballet Dance Show
And a marketing headshot shoot thrown in there too
I’m really proud of that list actually. Specially as this was done whilst working part time, with a then 2 year old and with no business experience what so ever (thank goodness for my husband - fully appreciation message for him in a bit). It’s always felt right though, right up to my last day at work last week, I very much feel like I am heading to where I am meant to be. You see not only is today (5th September 2022) my first business birthday but it is also my first day doing this as my full time job having taken redundancy from work, eek! There is some major imposter syndrome going on but I am very excited and have so much I want to do to grow my business and make it a success.
From initially only offering newborn photoshoots to adding cake smash photoshoots, birthday party photos and lets mention the business headshots too. Now I am looking to expand and grow and soon add family photoshoots, maternity photoshoots and seasonal mini sessions. I have learnt about social media from a whole new angle, how to keep accounts, writing booking forms, terms and conditions, invoices and business emails and managing a busy family, social, work and business diary.
As I said my husband very much deserves mention in all this. He has encouraged and supported me to do this from the start, always telling me I can do it, guiding me in all things business and marketing and just generally been there to help get me where I am today. I owe him a lot and as cringy as it may sound, I wouldn’t be where I am now without him.
Looking back at my photos from starting with friends and family to my first paid photoshoots to now I can see where my confidence and passion has grown motivating me to continue to grow and provide the best photos I can for future clients. I really want to make this business work, for myself and for my family. I have so much planned and things I want to achieve, I am excited for what is ahead.
